Hot Wheels is an American scale model vehicle brand that was introduced by Mattel in 1968. Prior to 1997, when Mattel acquired Matchbox's then-owner Tyco Toys, it was Matchbox's primary competitor.
Numerous automobile manufacturers have licensed Hot Wheels to produce scale models of their vehicles, allowing for the use of authentic blueprints and design specifications. Although Hot Wheels were originally intended for children and young adults, they have become popular among adult collectors, who can now purchase limited edition models.
