Gameboy non oem reproduction, Dr Mario video game cartridge. Game cartridge comes with a plastic protective case.

Dr. Mario for the Game Boy is a classic falling-block puzzle game released in 1990 alongside its NES counterpart. In this title, Mario assumes the role of a doctor at the Mushroom Kingdom Hospital to neutralize a viral outbreak using "Megavitamins".

Core Gameplay Mechanics

The objective is to eradicate all viruses within a medicine bottle by aligning colored vitamin capsules:

  • Elimination: Aligning four or more same-colored capsule halves or viruses in a horizontal or vertical row causes them to disappear.
  • Virus Types: There are three virus types—Fever (red), Chill (blue), and Weird (yellow).
  • Customization: Players can choose a starting level (0–20), which determines the initial virus count, and set the game speed to Low, Med, or Hi.
  • Difficulty: As levels progress, the number of viruses increases and capsules fall faster, requiring greater strategy and speed.

Key Game Boy Features

While the core rules are identical to the NES version, the Game Boy edition has distinct characteristics:

  • Monochrome Display: On the original Game Boy, the red, blue, and yellow elements are represented by different grayscale textures and shades.
  • Multiplayer: Supports two-player competitive virus-clearing via the Game Boy Link Cable.
  • Iconic Audio: Features two selectable background themes, "Fever" and "Chill," composed by Hirokazu Tanaka.
  • Unique Scenes: Clearing specific levels on Hi Speed rewards players with unique cutscenes, such as an underwater pond scene, which differs from the tree scene found in the NES version.
