Metroid Fusion is a side-scrolling action-adventure game released for the Game Boy Advance in 2002. It is the fourth main installment in the Metroid series and serves as a direct sequel to Super Metroid. 

Story and Setting

The game takes place on the Biologic Space Laboratories (B.S.L.) research station. While on a mission to the planet SR388, bounty hunter Samus Aran is infected by a shapeshifting parasite known as the X. She narrowly survives after being injected with a vaccine made from Metroid DNA—the X's only natural predator—which fundamentally alters her biology and grants her the ability to absorb X parasites to regain health and ammunition. 

The plot centers on Samus investigating an explosion at the B.S.L. station, where she must eradicate the spreading X infection while being relentlessly hunted by the SA-X, a terrifying parasite mimicking Samus at her full power. 

Gameplay Features

• Linear Progression: Unlike previous entries that emphasized open-ended exploration, Fusion is more mission-driven. An onboard computer nicknamed "Adam" provides Samus with specific objectives and guides her through the station's six distinct sectors.
• Fusion Suit Abilities: Samus begins in a weakened state with a new "Fusion Suit". She must reclaim her lost abilities—like the Morph Ball, Screw Attack, and Wave Beam—by downloading data from Navigation Rooms or defeating bosses to absorb their "Core-X".
• Modern Movement: The game introduced new movement mechanics to the series, such as the ability to grab onto ledges and climb ladders or "monkey bars".
• High Difficulty: Fusion is noted for its higher difficulty compared to its predecessors; Samus takes significantly more damage from enemies, making encounters with the SA-X particularly tense. 

Connectivity and Legacy

• GameCube Link: Players could use a link cable to connect to Metroid Prime on the GameCube, unlocking Samus's Fusion Suit for use in Prime or an emulated version of the original NES Metroid in Fusion.
