Developed by Matrix Software—the team behind the Final Fantasy III and IV DS remakes—Avalon Code is known for its unique "Book of Prophecy" mechanic that allows players to literally rewrite the world's code. 

Core Gameplay & Mechanics

The game's standout feature is the Book of Prophecy, which resides on the DS touch screen and acts as both a narrative device and a central gameplay tool. 

• Code Manipulation: Using the stylus, you can "scan" objects, monsters, and characters to reveal their elemental "codes". You can then add, remove, or swap these codes to change their properties. For example, you can remove a "stone" code from a monster to lower its defense or add a "poison" code to your weapon to inflict status effects.
• Combat: Battles take place in real-time on the top screen using button-based commands. You can equip two weapons at once from categories like swords, hammers, and projectiles.
• Judgement Link: A unique combat mini-game where you can launch enemies into the air and juggle them to earn rewards like MP restoration.
• Relationship System: The game features a love simulation component where you can develop relationships and potentially fall in love with various characters. 

Story & Setting

The plot offers a twist on typical RPG tropes: instead of trying to save a world fated for destruction, your goal is to decide what is worth bringing into the next world. 

• The Premise: You play as a young protagonist (male or female) who has been chosen by the "Powers-That-Be" to record the people, places, and things of the current world into the Book of Prophecy before the world is destroyed and reborn.
• Book Spirits: Throughout your journey, you are guided by four elemental spirits—Rempo, Mue, Neaki, and Anwar—who live within the book.
• Branching Choices: Your choice of gender and your interactions with other characters can influence the story's progression and ending.
