Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance for the Game Boy Advance (GBA) is a handheld adaptation of the popular 2001 home console action RPG. Released in 2004, it transitions the series' signature hack-and-slash gameplay into an isometric overhead perspective specifically optimized for portable hardware. 

Core Gameplay & Story

• Narrative: You play as a traveler who arrives in the city of Baldur's Gate only to be mugged, discovering that the thieves are linked to a larger, sinister threat. The quest to save your sister and the Sword Coast spans three acts and over 28 locations.
• Combat: Unlike the traditional turn-based roots of the main PC series, this title features real-time hack-and-slash combat. You battle classic Dungeons & Dragons monsters like kobolds and gelatinous cubes.
• D&D Rules: It is noted for being the first game to feature the real-time application of D&D 3rd Edition rules.
• Character Progression: You can choose from three initial classes: Fighter, Wizard, or Archer. A fourth secret class, the Elven Fighter, is unlocked upon completing the game. 

Key GBA Version Differences

• Single Player Only: Unlike the console versions, the GBA port removes the cooperative multiplayer mode.
• Interactive City: The town of Baldur's Gate is more interactive than its console counterparts, allowing you to enter more houses and talk to a wider range of NPCs.
• Technical Limitations: Players cannot jump or use recall potions. However, the game allows you to save at any time through the pause menu.
• Visuals: The game utilizes a sophisticated engine with real-time shadows and impressive lighting effects for the hardware. Notably, your character’s appearance changes visually based on the armor and weapons you equip.
