Nintendo 64 non oem reproduction Chameleon Twist 2 video game cartridge.

Chameleon Twist 2 is a 3D platform game for the Nintendo 64. Released in late 1998 in Japan and 1999 internationally, it is the sequel to the original Chameleon Twist. Players control one of four anthropomorphic chameleons—Davy, Jack, Fred, or Linda—navigating colorful, surreal worlds using their versatile, long tongues as their primary tool for movement and combat.

Core Gameplay & Mechanics

The game's signature mechanics revolve around the chameleons' elastic tongues, which have been enhanced for the sequel:

  • Innovative Movement: Beyond basic jumping, players use their tongues to vault over obstacles, swing from vertical or horizontal poles, and grapple onto walls to perform wall-jumps.
  • New Parachute Ability: Characters now carry a backpack containing a parasol/parachute, allowing for slow descents and gliding across large gaps.
  • Combat: Players can swallow multiple enemies at once and spit them out as projectiles. In this sequel, eating enemies no longer slows the player down.
  • Clothing Changes: True to being a chameleon, the character can find and change into different outfits throughout the adventure.

Game Worlds & Structure

Players must travel through six distinct worlds to collect magical carrots:

  • Sky Land: A floating realm with a mushroom-themed boss.
  • Carnival Land: A vibrant amusement park world.
  • Ice Land: A frozen terrain filled with penguins and igloos.
  • Great Edo Land: Based on ancient Japanese architecture, featuring shamisen music.
  • Toy Land: A world of giant toys and chessboards.
  • Pyramid Land: An Egyptian-themed final world with desert ruins.

Key Differences from the Original

  • Design Overhaul: In international versions, character designs were changed from the original "chibi" style to a more realistic, humanoid chameleon look.
  • No Multiplayer: Unlike its predecessor, Chameleon Twist 2 removed the multiplayer battle mode in favor of a strictly single-player experience.
  • Level Complexity: The levels are generally larger and more vertically oriented than in the first game.
