Chrono Trigger NES Game Nintendo Entertainment System ROM Hack

NES non oem reproduction Chrono Trigger video game cartridge.

Rather than a standard ROM hack that modifies an existing NES game, it is a completely custom-built RPG developed from scratch by Chinese developers, primarily Shenzhen Nanjing Technology. It was later translated and modified by the ROM hacking community.

Gameplay & Narrative

• The Story: It attempts to follow the plot of the original Chrono Trigger. Crono, Lucca, and Marle travel through time to stop the global threat of Lavos.
• The Script: The text and dialogue are heavily condensed due to the data limitations of the NES hardware.
• Battle System: It replaces the original SNES Active Time Battle (ATB) and positional tech system with a traditional, turn-based battle engine reminiscent of Final Fantasy VII on the NES.

Audio & Visuals

• Graphics: The visual design mimics the style of early 8-bit JRPGs like Final Fantasy III or Dragon Quest IV. Sprites and overworld maps are heavily downgraded to fit the restrictive NES color palette and tile limits.
• Music: The game features 8-bit chiptune demakes of Yasunori Mitsuda’s iconic soundtrack, mixed with music assets borrowed from other NES RPGs.
