Nintendo 64 non oem reproduction Indiana Jones and the Infernal Machine video game cartridge.

Indiana Jones and the Infernal Machine is a 3D action-adventure game released for the Nintendo 64 (N64) on December 14, 2000. Developed by LucasArts and Factor 5, it was the first 3D title in the franchise, often described as the N64’s equivalent to Tomb Raider.

Story & Setting

Set in 1947 during the early Cold War, the game follows Dr. Indiana Jones as he is recruited by the CIA to investigate Soviet excavations at the ruins of Babylon. The Soviets, led by Dr. Gennadi Volodnikov, are searching for four missing parts of the "Infernal Machine," an ancient device capable of opening a portal to a parallel dimension known as the Aetherium. Indy must travel across 17 chapters to locations like the Himalayas, the Sudan, and Olmec Valley to find these pieces first.

Gameplay Mechanics

The game features a hybrid of exploration, platforming, and puzzle-solving.

  • Combat & Weapons: Players can use Indy’s signature whip to disarm enemies or swing across gaps, as well as a variety of firearms including a revolver, machine guns, and bazookas.
  • Vehicles: Some levels include vehicle-themed segments such as rafting, jeep treks, and mine cart chases.
  • N64 Exclusive Features: The N64 version introduced a lock-on targeting system (similar to The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time) and allowed players to assign items to three of the C-buttons for easier access.

Visuals & Performance

  • Resolution: The game supports the 4MB Expansion Pak, allowing it to run in a high-resolution 640x480 mode.
  • Enhanced Effects: Compared to the original PC version, the N64 port features improved real-time lighting, particle effects (like sparks and falling rocks), and water transparencies.
