Released in late 1992, Mega Man III for the Game Boy is an action-platformer that blends levels and bosses from its NES counterparts, Mega Man 3 and Mega Man 4. It was developed by Minakuchi Engineering and published by Capcom.
Plot Summary
Dr. Wily has hijacked an offshore oil rig to drill into the Earth's crust, aiming to harness molten energy to power his latest creations. Mega Man must stop the renegade robots and eventually face a brand-new "Mega Man Killer" named Punk.
Key Gameplay Features
- Hybrid Content: The game includes eight Robot Masters: four from the NES Mega Man 3 (Snake Man, Gemini Man, Shadow Man, and Spark Man) and four from Mega Man 4 (Dust Man, Skull Man, Dive Man, and Drill Man).
- New Abilities: This game introduced the Charge Shot (Mega Buster) to the handheld series. It also features the slide maneuver and Rush’s Coil and Jet transformations.
- Eddie (Flip-Top): This is the first Game Boy title to include Eddie, who provides random power-ups during stages.
- Structure: Players choose from an initial four stages. Once defeated, they progress to a second set of four Robot Masters before the final showdown at Wily’s fortress.
