Napoleon (known in France as :'Aigle de Guerre, or "The Eagle of War") is a real-time strategy (RTS) video game released as a launch title for the Game Boy Advance in 2001. Developed by Genki and published by Nintendo, it was unique for bringing a typically PC-centric genre to a handheld console.
Key Game Features
- Role-Playing Gameplay: Instead of acting as an invisible cursor, you play as Napoleon Bonaparte himself, riding on horseback to directly command troops on the battlefield. If Napoleon is killed in action, the game ends.
- Fantasy Elements: Despite its historical name, the game takes heavy creative liberties. In addition to fighting the British, players encounter monsters, ogres, abominable snowmen, and even historical figures like Alexander the Great brought back from the dead by demons.
- Strategy Mechanics: The game features a Story Mode with character dialogue similar to the Fire Emblem series. Players manage unit morale, command various units like infantry, cavalry, and "giant cannons," and can capture enemy strongholds.
