Gameboy non oem reproduction Ninja Gaiden Shadow video game cartridge. Game cartridge comes with a plastic protective case.
Ninja Gaiden Shadow, released in 1991 for the original Game Boy, is a side-scrolling action platformer and a prequel to the classic NES Ninja Gaiden trilogy.
Story and Setting
The game is set in a retro-futuristic version of 1985, three years before the events of the first NES title. Players control a young Ryu Hayabusa during his training years as he fights to save New York City from the evil dictator Emperor Garuda.
Key Gameplay Features
- Combat: Ryu utilizes his signature katana for basic sword attacks. Unlike the NES games, his special "Ninja Arts" are limited to the Fire Wheel attack, which can be charged for up to five uses.
- Movement Mechanics:
- Ryu cannot stick to or climb vertical walls in this version.
- He can hang from and move along railings or beams.
- Grappling Hook: A unique addition that allows Ryu to latch onto and reach high platforms or railings.
- Structure: The game consists of five stages, each ending with a boss battle against Garuda’s minions, such as the cyborg "Spider" and the nobleman Whokisai.
Development and Origins
The game was developed by Natsume and published by Tecmo. It is widely known to be a licensed adaptation of a cancelled Game Boy port for Natsume's own Shadow of the Ninja, which was rebranded to fit the Ninja Gaiden franchise.
