My personal favorite new feature, is the ability to hold down Right C, and enable fast forward!
IMPORTANT - Make sure to not press Down C while in the menu. Only save when the game file has been loaded, and the main menu IS NOT OPEN.
Pokémon Gold Version is a landmark role-playing game (RPG) developed by Game Freak and published by Nintendo for the Game Boy Color. Originally released in Japan in 1999 and North America in 2000, it marks the beginning of the series' second generation alongside its counterpart, Pokémon Silver.
Core Gameplay and Plot
Set three years after the events of the original Red and Blue games, the story follows a young trainer from New Bark Town.
- The Johto Journey: Players explore the new Johto region, defeating eight Gym Leaders to collect badges and challenging the Elite Four to become the Champion.
- Team Rocket's Return: You must once again thwart the plans of Team Rocket, who are attempting to regroup after their previous defeat.
- Dual-Region Post-Game: After completing the main Johto story, players can travel back to the original Kanto region to earn eight more badges and eventually face the ultimate challenge: Pokémon Trainer Red.
Major New Features
According to the official Wikipedia entry, these games introduced several mechanics that became staples of the franchise:
- 100 New Pokémon: Expanding the total Pokédex to 251, featuring new starters (Chikorita, Cyndaquil, and Totodile) and the legendary mascot Ho-Oh.
- Day and Night System: An internal real-time clock affects the game world, with different Pokémon appearing depending on the time of day.
- New Types: The introduction of Steel and Dark types to balance the previously overpowered Psychic type.
- Breeding and Genders: Players can leave two compatible Pokémon at a Daycare to produce an Egg, leading to the discovery of "Baby Pokémon" like Pichu.
- PokéGear: A multi-functional device that serves as a map, radio, and cellular phone to keep in touch with other trainers.
