Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Explorers of Time is a rogue-like role-playing game for the Nintendo DS where you play as a human who has been transformed into a Pokémon with no memory of their past. After joining an exploration guild, you and a partner Pokémon embark on a journey to uncover the mystery of your transformation and stop a thief from stealing the Time Gears, which would plunge the world into darkness. 

Key Features

• Playable Pokémon: You start by taking a personality test that determines which of 16 different Pokémon you will become. You then choose a partner from a similar list to join your team.
• Randomly Generated Dungeons: Every mission takes place in a unique, non-repeating dungeon where layouts, items, and enemies change every time you enter.
• Vast Roster: The game features over 490 Pokémon from the first four generations (up to Pokémon Diamond and Pearl), almost all of which can eventually be recruited to your team.
• Strategic Combat: Battles are turn-based and grid-bound, requiring you to manage moves, items, and team positioning to survive.
• Online and Local Connectivity: You can use the Friend Rescue function via local wireless (and formerly Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection) to send SOS messages and be rescued by friends if you faint in a dungeon. 

Gameplay Mechanics

• Guild Life: You operate out of Wigglytuff’s Guild, where you take on jobs such as hunting down outlaw Pokémon or finding lost items to increase your rank.
• Exploration over Rescue: Unlike its predecessors (Blue/Red Rescue Team), the main focus of this installment is exploration and unearthing ancient secrets.
• Survival Elements: You must manage a "hunger" mechanic by bringing food into dungeons to prevent your Pokémon from taking damage over time.
• Consequences of Defeat: If your team faints, you typically lose all your money and a significant portion of your items, forcing you to restart the dungeon from the beginning unless rescued.

While Explorers of Time and Explorers of Darkness share the same main story, certain Pokémon are exclusive to this version, including:
