Venture - ColecoVision

It says "Just Like the Arcade" on the box and that's hardly an exaggeration. These were the days of vector graphics and limited color palettes. Venture was a brilliant idea for a quarter munching arcade cabinet. The Colecovision version of Venture looks more like the arcade than other versions and the gameplay is identical. You begin as a single pixel trying to get into each dungeon where you meet foes such as snakes and skeletons. Each dungeon contains a treasure. If you make it out with the treasure it's yours. But take too long and more powerful foes will spawn. Overall it's a really cool game. The variety of dungeons with their treasures and enemies makes playing into higher levels exciting. The sounds and controls are loyal to the arcade version while the Colecovision makes the best of the limited graphics of the game. Using a Colecovision controller may be the only drawback to this game. The Nintendo d-pad was merely a year away when this game came out!
