Nintendo’s Animated Mario Movie Trailer Released

After years of speculation, Nintendo has released the first trailer for its animated Super Mario film starring Chris Pratt.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie, announced in 2018, is a collaboration between Nintendo and the Illumination animation division of Universal Pictures. It features an all-star cast led by Chris Pratt, which also stars Jack Black as Bowser and Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach.

The curtain of secrecy has been lifted today with the release of the first official teaser trailer, which you can view in the section below.

The iconic plumber, who appears to be a stranger to the Mushroom Kingdom in this particular movie adaptation, only makes a brief appearance at the end of the trailer, with Pratt speaking just two lines.

Instead, the majority of the reveal focuses on Bowser's assault on a penguin fortress, aided by Kamek (voiced by Kevin Michael Richardson) and an army of Koopas. Other recognizable characters include Toad and Luigi (Charlie Day) fleeing a swarm of Skeleton Koopas.

Overall, it's a promising first look at The Super Mario Bros. Movie, with the trailer landing a few successful visual gags and introducing a striking take on the Mushroom Kingdom that's both familiar and unlike anything we've seen in the games before – the vertiginous Toad town beneath a towering Peach's castle being a particular highlight.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie, starring Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong, Fred Armisen as Cranky Kong, and Sebastian Maniscalco as Spike, is set to be released on April 7 2023.
