Lychnis (리크니스) is a side-scrolling action-platformer developed by Artcraft and Softmax, released exclusively for MS-DOS in South Korea in June 1994. As one of Softmax's early titles—preceding their more renowned series like The War of Genesis—Lychnis stands out for its blend of fantasy storytelling, dual-character mechanics, and challenging gameplay.

Set in the mythical land of Laurasia, the narrative unfolds a century after a formidable dragon was sealed away by Prince Grinstain of Bamas and Princess Respina of Pars using magical Hartinum artifacts. A malevolent sorcerer named Sakiski seeks to resurrect this dragon by sacrificing the current princess of Bamas. Players assume the roles of Lychnis, a young knight, or Iris, an apprentice magician, embarking on a quest to retrieve the hidden Hartinum arsenal and thwart Sakiski's dark ambitions. 

🎮 Gameplay & Features

• Character Selection: Choose between two protagonists:

  • Lychnis: A sword-wielding knight capable of wall-jumping.

  • Iris: A staff-wielding magician who utilizes ranged attacks and can double-jump.

• Level Design: Certain areas are accessible only by specific characters, encouraging replayability.

• Combat & Exploration: Defeat enemies to collect coins, health items, and power-ups. Treasure chests and various items are scattered throughout stages.

• Shop System: Collecting a special "shop" icon grants access to a store between stages, allowing players to upgrade weapons and increase maximum health.

• Challenge: The game lacks a save or password feature, requiring players to complete it in a single session. With the exception of the final confrontation, there are no boss battles.
