The European (EUR) version of Astro Boy: Omega Factor for the Game Boy Advance is a hybrid side-scrolling beat 'em up and shooter developed by Treasure and Hitmaker, and published by THQ. Released in Europe on February 18, 2005, it features refined gameplay and additional content compared to the original Japanese release.

Game Description & Features

In this title, you play as Astro Boy—a robotic superhero with a human mind—on a mission to reunite humans and robots. The game is widely considered one of the best licensed titles on the GBA, praised for its fluid animation and deep homage to Osamu Tezuka's entire body of work.

  • Superpowers: Utilize Astro’s signature abilities, including finger lasers, arm cannons, and machine guns deployed from his back.
  • The Omega Factor: As you meet more than 50 characters from across the Tezuka universe, you build your "Omega Factor," which allows you to upgrade Astro’s stats like strength, health, and flight speed.
  • Gameplay Modes: Combines traditional 2D brawling with auto-scrolling flight levels.
  • Narrative Structure: The story is divided into "Birth" and "Rebirth" episodes, featuring a time-travel mechanic that requires players to revisit stages to unlock the true ending.

Regional Differences (EUR/PAL Version)

The European version includes several improvements made after the Japanese launch to enhance the experience:

  • Difficulty Settings: Features three difficulty levels (Easy, Normal, and Hard), whereas the Japanese version only had two.
  • Enhanced Bosses: Adds health meters for bosses, which were absent in the Japanese release.
  • Technical Fixes: Includes reduced slowdown during action-heavy sequences and a few new enemy types.
