Contra 4 for the Nintendo DS is a fast-paced 2D "run and gun" action game developed by WayForward Technologies and published by Konami. Released in 2007 to celebrate the franchise's 20th anniversary, it serves as a direct sequel to the 16-bit classic Contra III: The Alien Wars. 

Key Game Features

• Dual-Screen Action: The gameplay spans both screens of the DS, creating massive, vertically-oriented environments and allowing for "sky-high" boss battles.
• Grappling Hook: A first for the series, this tool allows players to latch onto railings and surfaces to maneuver between screens and dodge incoming fire.
• Weapon System: Players can carry two weapons at once and switch between them. Picking up the same power-up twice (like the iconic Spread Shot) upgrades it to a more powerful version.
• Classic Gameplay: It features nine stages, including traditional side-scrolling levels and pseudo-3D "tunnel" stages that pay homage to the original NES titles.

Story and Characters

Set two years after Contra III, the elite commandos Bill Rizer and Lance Bean return to the Galuga archipelago. They are joined by two newcomers, Mad Dog and Scorpion, to stop a new alien threat known as the Black Viper.

• Full versions of the original Contra and Super C for the NES.
• Challenge Mode: 40 unique mini-missions that test specific skills, such as completing a level without firing a weapon.
