Cruis'n USA is a classic arcade-style racing game released for the Nintendo 64 in 1996. Developed by Midway and Leland Interactive Media, it was a highly anticipated port of the popular 1994 arcade title. 

Core Gameplay & Features

The game centers on a high-speed cross-country race across the Continental United States, starting in San Francisco and ending at the White House in Washington, D.C.. 

• Arcade Roots: It features straightforward, fast-paced "checkpoint" racing where players must reach the goal before a timer hits zero.
• Track Locations: The 14-stage marathon includes diverse American-themed tracks such as the Golden Gate Bridge, Death Valley, Mount Rushmore, and the Appalachian Mountains.
• Vehicle Roster: Players choose from several vehicles, including muscle cars and Italian sports models. Hidden vehicles like a school bus or a police car can be unlocked through gameplay.
• Modes:
• Cruise the USA: A single-player 14-stage race across the country.
• Split-Screen Multiplayer: Supports head-to-head racing for two players.
• Interactive Audio: A notable feature is the ability to change the background music tracks during a race using a dedicated button. 

Port Differences & Reception

While the arcade original was a massive success, the N64 port received mixed reviews. 

• Content Changes: The N64 version was censored by Nintendo, removing elements like exploding roadkill and certain "bikini-clad" animations found in the arcade.
• Legacy: Despite technical flaws, it remains a nostalgic title for many N64 owners and was eventually followed by sequels like Cruis'n World and Cruis'n Exotica.
