Released in late 2000, Donkey Kong Country for the Game Boy Color is a handheld remake of the 1994 SNES classic. Developed by Rare, it attempts to fit the entire 40-level platforming adventure onto a handheld cartridge while adding several exclusive features not found in the original console version. 

Key Game Features

• Classic Gameplay: Join the duo of Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong as they journey across Donkey Kong Island to reclaim their stolen banana hoard from King K. Rool.
• New Content: Includes an exclusive new level titled "Necky Nutmare" in the Chimp Caverns world.
• Exclusive Minigames: Features new activities like "Funky's Fishing" and "Crosshair Cranky," which can be played to earn collectibles.
• Quality of Life Changes: The game introduces an auto-save system that saves your progress after every level, a major improvement over the SNES version's limited save points.
• Sticker Book: Players can collect hidden scrapbook pieces throughout the levels to unlock images in an in-game sticker book, which is also compatible with the Game Boy Printer.

Differences from the SNES Version

• Visuals & Audio: Graphics and sound are downgraded to fit GBC hardware. Only one Kong appears on screen at a time, and the pre-rendered sprites have lower resolution.
• Animal Friends: Instead of riding animal buddies like Rambi or Winky, the Kongs "become" them in this version.
• Screen Perspective: Due to the smaller screen, levels were slightly modified to prevent "blind jumps," though the viewing area is tighter than on a television.
