Doom 64 Nintendo 64 N64 Video Game Cartridge 1997
Nintendo 64 non oem reproduction Doom 64 video game cartridge.
Doom 64 is a 1997 first-person shooter developed and published by Midway Games specifically for the Nintendo 64. Though it carries the familiar name, it is an entirely original game rather than a port of the PC versions, featuring unique levels, graphics, and a distinct atmosphere.
Plot & Story
Set after the events of Doom II, the game follows the Doom Marine who is sent on a "merciless extermination" mission to a quarantined UAC research facility on the moons of Mars.
- The Threat: A single entity with "vast rejuvenation powers," later known as the Mother Demon, survived the previous wars and is resurrecting dead demons into more vicious, mutated forms.
- The Ending: After defeating the Mother Demon, the Marine decides to remain in Hell forever to ensure no demon ever rises again, a choice that officially bridges the classic series to the 2016 reboot.
Key Features & Gameplay
- Atmosphere: Unlike the heavy metal-inspired predecessors, Doom 64 leans heavily into ambient horror with eerie soundscapes and a dark, moody visual style.
- New Graphics: All visual assets—including weapons and enemies—were redesigned as high-poly pre-rendered sprites.
- The Unmaker: A powerful new weapon that can be upgraded with three ancient "Demon Keys" hidden in secret levels, drastically increasing its fire rate and beam count.
- Levels: Features 32 exclusive levels filled with complex puzzles, traps (like flying darts), and scripted events that can morph the environment in real-time.
- Enemy Changes: While it omits some classics like the Revenant and Arch-vile due to cartridge space, it introduces the Nightmare Imp and several rebalanced enemy behaviors.
Technical Evolution
- Custom Engine: It uses a modified version of the Doom engine that supports dynamic colored lighting, which allows for striking color-themed rooms and shadow effects.
- Control Scheme: Designed for the unique N64 controller, it uses the analog stick for movement and C-buttons for strafing and weapon switching.
