F-Zero: GP Legend is a futuristic racing game developed by Suzak Inc. and published by Nintendo for the Game Boy Advance (GBA). It was originally released in Japan in November 2003, followed by European and North American releases in 2004.

Game Overview

The game is based on the anime series F-Zero: Falcon Densetsu and serves as a reboot for the franchise. It utilizes a modified "Mode 7" engine to simulate a 3D perspective on the handheld's hardware.

Key Gameplay Features

  • Massive Roster: Features over 30 playable pilots, including series staples like Captain Falcon and newcomers like Rick Wheeler (Ryu Suzaku).
  • Combat Mechanics: In addition to standard high-speed racing, players can perform side-attacks to damage opponents or take sharp corners more effectively.
  • Boost System: Available from the second lap of each race, boosting provides a speed burst but consumes the machine's energy, which must be replenished in pit areas.
  • Customization: Machines are rated in three categories: Body (durability), Boost (speed and duration), and Grip (handling).

Primary Game Modes

  • Story Mode: Follows eight characters, including Rick Wheeler and Captain Falcon, through unique missions like chasing enemies or reaching destinations before a timer expires.
  • Grand Prix: Players compete in four cups (Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum) across three difficulty levels (Novice, Standard, and Expert).
  • Zero Test: A dedicated challenge mode with 48 tests (divided into classes C, B, A, and S) designed to master specific sections of track.
  • Multiplayer: Supports up to four players via the GBA Link Cable, offering both Single-Pak and Multi-Pak modes.
