Harvest Moon 3 GBC is a farming simulation RPG released for the Game Boy Color in late 2001 (North America). As the final entry for the GBC, it introduced a dual-protagonist system and a unique setting on a remote island. 

Core Gameplay & Story

The game centers on a farm located on a remote island. Depending on your choice of character, the plot differs: 

• Pete (Boy): A successful farmer from a previous game sent by the mayor to help a novice girl manage her deceased father's farm.
• Sara (Girl): Returns to her father's island home after his death to save the family farm from being sold, receiving help from a seasoned male farmer. 

Unique Features & Mechanics

• Gender-Specific Roles: The boy character focuses on crop management and tool upgrades, while the girl focuses on livestock care (starting with a free cow).
• Marriage & Partner System: Unlike previous titles, you can marry your NPC partner. However, if you play as the girl, the game ends upon marriage, whereas playing as the boy allows you to continue and even have children.
• Mainland Access: There are no shops on the island; players must take a ferry to the mainland on Mondays and Thursdays to buy tools, seeds, and livestock.
• Animal Variety: You can own up to eight of each animal (cows, chickens, sheep, and horses). Horses can be bred and entered into races.
• Pets: You choose a pet at the start—dog, cat, bird, or pig—each with small perks, such as the pig occasionally finding money.
• Mini-games: Includes unique side activities like snowboarding and ocean fishing from a personal boat.
