Released in 1997, Harvest Moon GB is the first portable entry and second overall game in the Harvest Moon series (now known as Story of Seasons.) It is a life simulation RPG where you must revitalize a run-down farm inherited from your late grandfather. 

Core Gameplay & Objectives

• The Mission: Your grandfather's spirit tasks you with becoming a "Ranch Master". He evaluates your progress at the end of each winter; failing to meet his criteria can result in a "Game Over," while success earns you better tools.
• Farming: You clear land, till soil, and plant seasonal crops like turnips and potatoes in Spring, or corn and tomatoes in Summer. Crops must be watered daily to grow.
• Livestock: You can raise up to four cows for milk and four chickens for eggs. You also receive a horse and can choose between a dog or a cat as a pet.
• Exploration: The game features two primary locations: your ranch and a local town. While town exploration is simplified compared to console versions, you can still visit shops to buy seeds, tools, and food to replenish your stamina.

• First Gender Choice: This was the first game in the series to allow players to choose between playing as a boy or a girl.
• Harvest Sprites: Small helper creatures live in a cave under your tool shed and can assist with farm work.
• Streamlined Experience: Unlike the console versions, Harvest Moon GB lacks the marriage and dating mechanics, focusing purely on farming and ranching efficiency.
• GBC Version Enhancements: A later Game Boy Color release added full-color graphics and a "Timer Mode" that allows Harvest Sprites to work while the system is powered off.
