Gameboy Color non oem reproduction Mario Tennis video game cartridge. Game cartridge comes with a plastic protective case just like the picture shows.

Released in early 2001, Mario Tennis for the Game Boy Color is a hybrid sports-RPG developed by Camelot Software Planning. While the home console version focuses on arcade-style matches with familiar Mushroom Kingdom faces, the handheld version features an in-depth story mode where you rise through the ranks of a prestigious tennis academy.

Core Gameplay & Features

  • Mario Tour (Story Mode): You control either Alex or Nina, new students at the Royal Academy. You must train, win matches against school rivals, and advance from the Junior class to the Varsity squad to eventually challenge Mario himself.
  • RPG Progression: As you play, you earn experience points to level up stats such as Speed, Power, Spin, and Control. This progression also applies to your AI doubles partner—Harry for Alex, or Kate for Nina.
  • Dynamic Shot System: Despite having only two buttons, the game offers a wide range of techniques:
    • Topspin (Red): High bounce and powerful.
    • Slice (Blue): Low trajectory with side spin.
    • Smash (Purple): The most powerful shot, often triggered on "smash points".
    • Lobs and Drop Shots: Controlled by specific button combinations for tactical play.
  • Exhibition & Minigames: If you want immediate action, Exhibition Mode features characters like Luigi, Donkey Kong, and Baby Mario. There are also character-specific minigames, such as Mario's "Boo Blast" or Peach's "Perfect Shot".

Platforms & Legacy

  • Original Hardware: Available as a physical cartridge for the Game Boy Color.
  • Modern Accessibility: The game was re-released on the Nintendo 3DS Virtual Console and more recently on Nintendo Switch Online in March 2024.
  • N64 Connectivity: Originally, players could use the Transfer Pak to upload their custom characters to the Nintendo 64 version of Mario Tennis. In the Nintendo Switch Online version, characters like Bowser and Yoshi, who were originally locked behind this transfer, are available by default.
