Key Features and Origins

• Release and Platform: Released on February 27, 1996, in Japan for the original Game Boy. It is enhanced for the Super Game Boy but does not have a native Game Boy Color version.
• Mascot: Features Venusaur on the cover, serving as the counterpart to Pokémon Red's Charizard.
• Core Gameplay: Established the series standard of traveling through the Kanto region, battling eight Gym Leaders, and catching 151 Pokémon.
