Tomato Adventure is a colorful role-playing game (RPG) developed by AlphaDream and published by Nintendo exclusively for the Game Boy Advance in Japan on January 25, 2002. It is widely recognized as the spiritual predecessor to the Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga series. This is however a FULL English translation!
Gameplay & "Gimmicks"
The core mechanic revolves around Gimmicks—toy-like weapons that require players to complete action-based minigames (similar to WarioWare or Paper Mario) to deal damage.
- Active Battles: Unlike traditional turn-based RPGs, you must perform tasks like button mashing, timed presses, or following input sequences to land successful hits.
- Difficulty Scaling: Players can manually increase a Gimmick's difficulty level to earn more power and Awe Points, which charge up devastating "extreme" attacks.
- Overworld Exploration: There are no random encounters; enemies are visible on the map, and battles only begin when you bump into them.
Story & Setting
The game is set in the Ketchup Kingdom, a world ruled by the tomato-loving King Abīra.
- Protagonist: You play as DeMille, an eight-year-old outcast who was banished to Koborē Village because he hates tomatoes.
- The Quest: After his girlfriend Patharan is kidnapped, DeMille must defeat the six "Super Kids" to collect robot parts that grant access to the Gimmick Palace and save the kingdom.
